Basit Sheikh

I  am the founder of Cobbleform, with over three decades of  experience leading enterprise IT transformation and a lifelong passion  for engineering, automation, and hands-on problem-solving. 

From  the start of my career, I’ve had an entrepreneurial drive to build  systems that make a lasting impact.  At GIS Systems, I co-developed PC-NFS with Sun Microsystems, an early advance in networked computing. At Diagonal Systems, I managed and co-developed an oil refinery maintenance system in Oracle. At GE Information Services, I modernized their private cloud  infrastructure, leading the creation of the first open systems  processing platform, which supported over $600M in business. I introduced Oracle RDBMS to GEIS, transformed the corporate  network from a legacy WAN to a global MPLS backbone, and built  frameworks that enabled international expansion. Most recently, at OpenText, I led the Global Network Team,  supporting 68 data centers worldwide with mission-critical  infrastructure.
 

Alongside my corporate career,  I’ve pursued projects in robotics, data acquisition, and  automation—including building and implementing remote monitoring systems  for real-world marine applications. These experiences connect directly  to Cobbleform’s mission today: blending precision machining,  fabrication, and consulting with modern automation practices.

Across  every chapter, my focus has been on transformation at scale—whether  through global IT systems, industrial automation, or hands-on machining  solutions.

Outside of work, I live on Maryland’s Eastern Shore with my American Bulldog, Bear, Cobbleform’s unofficial mascot.
